The sixth National Congress of TAC drew a conclusion on November 13^th 2009 in Beijing, during which the Sixth National Council of TAC were elected. A total number of 336 members of the council represent sectors of the translation industry in China, such as diplomatic and foreign affairs, scientific translation, literary and art translation, social sciences translation, international communication and publicity translation, military science translation, ethnic languages translation, translation theories and teaching, translation services, localization services, machine translation, as well as translation software. 

During the following council member meeting, a new term of leadership of TAC was elected, with Li Zhaoxin, former minister of foreign affairs and renowned diplomat, as President. He will hold the term for 5 years.

On behalf of the new leading body, Mr. Li proposed issues that TAC will be addressing in particular: to offer policy suggestions to governmental authorities, to address industrial needs and requests, to strengthen self-discipline and improve the image of the industry, to promote academic research and professional education, to offer better membership services, to further expand international exchanges. He is confident that the new steering body will fulfill its mission.
