The sixth National Congress of TAC and the Forum on 60 Years of Translation in the People’s Republic of China took place in Beijing during November 12 and 13, 2009. Over 300 representatives from across the country, including Hong Kong and Macau, as well as a few overseas members, were present at the congress. Marion Boers, President of FIT, sent a congratulatory letter for this occasion.
At the opening ceremony, Tang Jiaxuan, former State Councilor, at the invitation of TAC, became the Honorary President of TAC and delivered a warm speech.
The Forum on 60 Years of Translation in the People’s Republic of China was then held, highlighting the achievements of translation since the People’s Republic of China was founded 60 years ago, touching upon topics ranging from foreign affairs, literary translation, translation theories and teaching, translation of scientific and technological subject matters, etc. TAC was established in 1982, with the National Congress being its highest authority which takes place every five years. During the congress, the new term of leadership of TAC is elected, bylaws are revised as necessary, and TAC members and branches with outstanding achievements, as well as senior translators are honored. |
