International Communications Translation Committee of TAC
Established in 1991, the International Communications Translation Committee of TAC currently consists of three teams of translators from Chinese to English, from Chinese to French and from Chinese to Japanese. The committee sponsors academic discussion on translation from Chinese into foreign languages, promotes professional training towards that direction and offers consultation services. Since its establishment, the Committee has regularly organized academic seminars and discussions on translation of difficult terms and phrases in Chinese politics, economy and social life, and have published the result of the discussions for use by the media and the public.

Translation Service Committee of TAC
Established in 2003, the Translation Service Committee of TAC is mainly made up of translation companies in China. The task of the Committee is to promote self-discipline of the translation industry, organize exchanges of experience among translation enterprises, facilitate information services and business negotiation, and regulate the translation market. Three national standards have been drawn up by the Committee and approved by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and the Standardization Administration of China. They are Specification for Translation Service—Part 1: Translation (GB/T19363.1-2003, 27 November 2003), Target Text Quality Requirements for Translation Services (GB/T19682-2005, 12 May 2005) and the Specification for Translation Service—Part 2: Interpretation (GB/T19363.2-2006, 30 Septemober 2006). All of these standards have been published in Chinese and English simultaneously

Translation Theories and Translation Teaching Committee of TAC
Established in 1995, the Committee is made up of teachers of translation and experts and researchers in translation theory from universities. Its main task is to carry out theoretical researches in translation, discuss teaching of translation and train translators. Since its establishment, the Committee has organized various academic events including the “National Symposium on Theories and Teaching of Translation” and the “National Doctoral Forum on Translation”.

Military Science Translation Committee of TAC
Established in 1987, the Committee regularly holds academic exchanges on translation in the filed of military science, and carry out services and consultation accordingly. It devotes itself to safeguarding the legal rights and interests of translators in the army and other people who engage in the studies of military science using foreign languages, and accelerating academic exchanges and contacts among organizations in this field in China and other countries.
Science and Technology Translation Committee of TAC
Established in 1992, the Committee is made up of translators and research institutes of scientific and technological translation. The Committee regularly holds academic symposia and other domestic and international academic exhanges to promote training of technical translators. Chinese Science and Technology Translators Journal published by the Committee won the FIT award of “Best Periodical 1990-1993”. .

Ethnic Languages Translation Committee of TAC
Established in 1985, the Committee is responsible for organizing and coordinating work of institutions engaging in translation into and from languages of ethnic groups of China and to improve the quality of such translations. The Committee sponsors a national symposium on ethnic language translation every other year and so far 13 such symposia have been held. It also sponsors non-scheduled academic workshops on translation. The bulletin of the Committee Minority Translators Journal was launched in 1985.

Social Science Translation Committee of TAC
Established in 1986, the Committee consists of representatives of universities, scientific research institutes, the press and publishing houses. The Committee irregularly holds national symposia on social science translation, recommending books for translation and providing translators with the latest development in academic studies and publications.

Foreign Relations Translation Committee of TAC
Esttablished in 1993, the Committee is made up of translators from foreign affairs offices of government departments and state-owned enterprises. The main functions of the Committee are: carry out academic discussions on practice and theories concerning translation in the fields of foreign affairs in China, recommend translation of important terms and statements; organize cross-disciplinary and cross-language exchanges and other activities of interest to translators working in this field.

Literature and Arts Translation Committee of TAC
Established in 1986, the Committee is made up of literary translators from the Institute of Foreign Literature of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University and People’s Literature Publishing House. Important figures from universities in Beijing and Shanghai, mostly literary translators and many experts in the cinema, fine arts, music and theater, are invited to be members of the Committee. The Committee has hosted or co-hosted national and international symposia on literary translation, and organized events to mark birthday anniversaries of famous foreign writers.

Localization Service Committee of TAC
Established in 2009, the Committee consists of Chinese and overseas localization service companies, buyers of localization service, tools developers, educational institutions, and specialists on internationalization and localization. The Committee is dedicated to sponsoring academic and business exchanges on localization and internationalization, developing and promoting industry standards, facilitating international cooperation and exchanges, carrying out industry surveys to which may serve as references to government decision-making, providing guidance on localization service, offering consultation and training services, and safeguarding the lawful rights and interests of the localization sector and the practitioners in the sector.
